About SwissDrilling
Connecting Swiss Earth scientists with the world’s leading drilling programs on land and at sea.
Our Mission
We facilitate Switzerland's participation in international scientific drilling.
SwissDrilling acts as the national liaison for scientific drilling in Switzerland.
We aim to strengthen the Swiss science community by connecting researchers with international drilling projects, promoting education and training opportunities, and representing Switzerland in global decision-making and governing bodies.
Facilitating Access to Global Programs
Providing Swiss scientists with access to ICDP and IODP³ infrastructures, data, and samples worldwide.
Linking Scientists Across Switzerland
Connecting researchers from Swiss universities and institutes to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Promoting Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Bringing together the marine and continental drilling communities to advance integrated Earth system science.
Supporting Research and Development
Assisting scientists in preparing proposals, organizing workshops, and engaging in outreach and training initiatives.

Organization
SwissDrilling is coordinated by representatives from Swiss universities and research institutions.
The coordination office is managed by Miriam Andres and Flavio Anselmetti and based at the University of Bern.
The organizational structure ensures direct communication between Swiss scientists, funding agencies, and the international drilling consortia (ICDP and IODP³).
Mentorship & Community
Swiss scientists actively participate in international training and mentoring initiatives.
Through the ICDP Mentorship Program, senior researchers such as Flavio Anselmetti and Hendrik Vogel support early-career scientists and help strengthen the global drilling community.

The drill sting is a key tool to explore the Earth's structure, history and processes.
Through the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Switzerland is a member of both the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) and the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP³).
SwissDrilling coordinates this participation and ensures Swiss-based researchers the access to drilling projects, data, samples and all legacy data of both drilling programs to land and sea.
SwissDrilling fosters the collaboration amongst scientists and supports the scientific drilling community by sharing knowledge and helping in project development. The SwissDrilling Day, a topical conference, offers the opportunity to present projects and plans, exchange ideas and network within the community.
