Nam Co Drilling Project (NAM Core)

Nam Co is one of the largest and deepest lakes on the Tibetan Plateau and influenced by today's monsoon regime (wind, precipitation). Continuous cores provide an opportunity to study the development of such large-scale atmospheric circulation systems through space and time. Scienstist are particularly interested in reconstructing the paleoclimate and changes in the environment. The cores also offer the opportunity to study the rise of the Tibetan plateau as a result of the changing tectonic forces and a better understanding of the Quaternary geomagnetic field.
